Detroit does not offer any type of shuttle service or public transportation
from the airport to our conference hotel in downtown. However, our
local hosts have researched some various taxi and car service companies
that you can use. It is best if you can SHARE rides with other conference
attendees either from your own agencies (if your travel permits)
or Catholic Charities USA would be happy to assist in helping you
connect with other attendees traveling into Detroit at a similar
time and day. If you want to take advantage of this option, please
e-mail your arrival date, airline flight number, time and contact
information to astinger@catholiccharitiesusa.org by August 18, 2003.
We will then compile a list of all attendees by date and arrival
times and will e-mail the list to you by August 22, 2003. It is
your responsibility to make contact with fellow attendees and arrange
to meet in Detroit at the airport and secure transportation to the
hotel. Following are various local taxis and car companies to call
prior to your arrival should you choose or just hop in a cab at
the airport upon arrival. Prices one-way range from $40 to $50.
| Lorraine Cab | 313-582-6900 |
| Airport Transportation Service LLC | 734-789-9083 |
| Metro Cars | 734-946-5700 |
The Internet has given individual travelers the ability to look
for the lowest rates for tickets to any destination. Detroit is
a hub for Northwest Airlines and
attendees can call directly to the airlines or you can use the travel
company for Catholic Charities USA PASSAGEWAYS TRAVEL, call at 1-800-748-0406.
Their customer service agents are ready and willing to help in finding
the best fare for you.
Detroit is the "motor city" and should your travel plans require the need for a rental car, Catholic Charities USA has made special arrangements with HERTZ to provide competitive rates on various cars. If you wish to rent a car please call 800-654-2240 and provide the following code number #022L0890 and representatives are ready to assist you.
With the close proximity to our northern
neighbors, you may decide to extend your visit to the Detroit
area with a idea to visit Windsor, Canada. Because of the heightened
security you MUST have two forms of identification. Suggested forms
of ID are valid driver's license, military ID, passport, and birth
certificate. You can expect long delays and lines especially when
returning to the United States but it is well worth the effort.
Quaint shops, boutiques, restaurants and other historical venues
await your exploration.
