Key Communications Strategies to Defeat 2006 Budget Bill
To support Catholic Charities USA efforts in defeating the upcoming vote on the budget reconciliation bill, we implemented some new strategies to get our message out, including running a full page ad in Roll Call, distributing audio news releases to key states, and submitting op eds in key local papers. Here is a look.
Roll Call Ad. When Congress returns on Jan. 30, Catholic Charities USA will be a running a full-page ad in Roll Call, the top newspaper of Capitol Hill read my members and their staff. The Jan. 30 issue is the paper's special welcome back issue and will include a larger print run/circulation. To view ad, click here.
Op eds. Catholic Charities USA submitted op eds by Rev Larry Snyder in 12 communities that have members of their Congressional delegation with key votes in this matter and have an opportunity to stand up for those who are poor and vulnerable by voting against this misguided legislation. For each paper, we put specific information on how these budget changes would impact their state. To date, the op ed has been picked up by at least on targeted paper in Texas. View these op eds.
Audio News Releases. The week of Jan. 23 and Jan 30, Catholic Charities USA is distributing audio news releases nationally and to our 12 targeted communities. Like the localized op eds, the local feeds of the audio news releases, include state specific information on the impact of the budget cuts. Listen to these audio news releases.
