"It is our duty to prefer service to the poor to everything else and to offer such
service as quickly as possible. Charity is certainly greater than any rule.
Moreover, all rules must lead to charity."
St. Vincent de Paul
Established by the Board of Trustees of Catholic Charities USA, this national society is for people who wish to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ in his ministry of service to the poor.
The Order of Saints Louise and Vincent is named for two saints in the Church whose work on behalf of the poor if widely heralded: Saint Louise de Marillac, Patroness of Social Workers and Saint Vincent de Paul, Patron of Charitable Endeavors.
By offering a unique kinship with the Church as it works through Catholic Charities USA to enhance the manner in which local member agencies reach out each hour of the day to help those in need, members demonstrate an understanding for a national presence in the Church in solidarity with those who work on behalf of the poor, especially social workers.
